The Outrage Machine
Future Possibilities for Transforming the Machine

By Mike Gonzalez
In the third article of our October issue, Mike unveils perspectives for future consensus, including possible consensus on the golden rule of budgeting. While consensus in today’s political environment seems like a long shot, Alexander Hamilton noted that, in ratifying the Constitution, the Founders were determined “to abolish factions and unite all parties for the general welfare.” If all parties were to return to this ideal, responsible innovation and steady reforms could be achieved that would ensure the future of democracy in the United States. Most innovations and reforms of government are based on or touch on budgeting in one way or another. Returning to the fiscal golden rule of generational responsibility would constitute movement in the direction of stability and away from the polarized chaos that currently holds sway.
