The People Have Always Had the Power

The people have always had the power, but it’s taken time, effort and a commitment to improvement to get us to where we are now with our modern States. In this article I will be discussing the social contract, how it was identified, what it looked like in the days before its identification and how its identification in early modern times shaped the underpinnings of our world today.
The social contract is a rather simple concept but is not as intuitive as its simplicity would imply. This is the case because, up until relatively recently, there was a single method for the people of a territory to change their government. Human history is full of the toppling of monarchs, despots and tyrants. What is less common is the people using their voice to push their government to change.
The simple truth is that the Nation-State is comprised of people, and can only endure if the people who comprise it continue to allow it to. Modern States have better systems of keeping the public from destroying the State to get the change they desire. Some States have achieved this through democratic systems, while others have achieved it through subversive social controls.
